It's a common thought, when we speak of terrazzo floors, to refer to noble villas, elegant palaces and luxurious buildings. The "normal" man doesn't consider his "humble home" suitable for the "seminato alla veneziana", since it is too expensive to realize and even to mantain. Nothing so wrong, 'cause:

Dreams are not always so difficult to realize...

Terrazzo floors are not so pricey as you believe and the attention you must give them is quiete the same of a surface covered by tiles.

Let's check some of the common opinions:

1) IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE
This is the most common obiection and also the less correct one.
Even if it's true that the material (marble and granite) must be of a certain quality, if you want a good result, if you make a comparison with the prices of a medium quality tile (and you have to add also the cost of the work), you'll find that the cost of an equivalent surface made by seminato is not so different of that amount and sometimes it is even cheaper.

2) IT'S TOO DELICATE
Terrazzo floors are made by stone and cement: do you really think that a surface made of marble and granite is not solid?

3) IT WILL EASILY BREAK
It is sometimes possible that, with the passing of time, the surface presents some fissures, but this is due to some errors in the procedures: like every other profession, rush and improvvisation are not the suited ingredients for a good result.
In order to avoid this problem, we use only products of a certain quality and we want to be sure that the surface has the correct criteria to fit with our project.
Before starting our job, the correct procedure is to verify the type of ground, the satuts of the foundation and of the floor (thickness, depth, presence of grids and other elements).

4) IT NEEDS TO MANY ATTENTIONS
You don't have to spend your time in polishing every day the surface with expensive wax and particular machines. You just have to follow some simple incstuctions and take care of your terrazzo as a normal floor, using normal soap (very indicated the Marseille one) and a common wax.
